Week 14

Thanks to I AM PREGNANT for the following information:

"You are now in your second trimester! Your baby's crown to rump length is 3.2 to 4.5 inches long and he weighs approximately 1 ounce now. Your baby is about the size of the average fist.

Now that you are into your second trimester, you may be starting the best part of your pregnancy. You will probably start to feel more energetic and you may get the `pregnancy glow`. Your uterus is beginning to swell week by week and you can follow its progress by locating the top of the uterus. The position of the top of the uterus will continue to gradually move up your abdomen, from beneath the pubic line to above your navel. Maternity clothes are probably necessary now. You might also experience hemorrhoids, which are painful dilated blood vessels around or inside the anus.

At this time, your baby's face is becoming more developed. The cheeks and bridge of his nose appear and the ears move from the sides of his neck to much higher on his head. The eyes continue to come closer together. A big development from this week onward is the development of lanugo. Lanugo is the fine hair that grows over almost your entire baby. The hairs grow in whirled patterns that follow the grain of his skin. These patterns later give way to your baby's fingerprints. The lanugo will be shed before birth and replaced by thicker, coarser hairs. Your baby's thyroid gland has matured and starts to produce hormones. If your baby is a boy, the prostate will appear and the ovaries descend from the abdomen into the pelvis in baby girls.

If you are having the Chorionic Villus sampling test (to check for Down's syndrome) it's done round about now. The embryo`s soft cartilage is now being replaced with ` real` chalk bones.

Your baby has eyebrows, but no eyelashes. Fine, light hair also begins to grow."

Hooray!

No migraines this weekend! I didn't even throw up! I think, maybe, I've turned the corner, at least I hope I have. :D

How should I sleep?

A friend of mine told me to sleep on my back. Heartburn City! Another said to sleep on my side. I looked it up on the Internet and this is what I found:

Okay, after asking my doctor and having the "S.O.S" confirmed, I know how to sleep now.

Migraines SUCK!

I had a migraine last night. The first one since last Wednesday.

Gee, they suck!

The picture above accurately portrays what an aura is like. My auras are not colorful, though. They're only whiteish.

My hormones have really done a number on me. Baby Moose is SO worth it, though.

Pooh in the Nursery?

We've / I've decided to decorate Baby Moose's nursery in Winnie the Pooh.

He's such a silly, silly old bear! (AND gender neutral, too!)

My growing belly

Mr. Moose snapped this pic of my belly, Saturday.

The tests that started it all....

I was feeling sorta weird the end of April, beginning of May. My periods aren't always regular, so when I missed April, I didn't freak out.

May 1, a Thursday, I pulled out an old pregnancy test from under the sink. I tee teed on it and it was positive. So, I bathed and drove to the nearest drug store and bought two more tests and a bottle of Izzie(r) Grapefruit juice.

After getting two more positive results, I freaked totally out.
My mom was supposed to meet me that day and we were supposed to hang out. When she got to our house, I told her I needed her to help me with something upstairs. I showed her the tests. She didn't get to excited but suggested we go get a blood test at my gynecologist's office.

After waiting what seemed like an eternity, our prayers were answered. I was 6 weeks along. (Which was confirmed the NEXT DAY!)

I told Mr. Moose by wrapping up a pacifier and giving him a "Thank goodness for babies" card.

Needless to say, I never knew two pink lines could change our lives so.
I'm so anxious, excited, nervous, scared, elated, etc. all rolled into one. I only hope we will be good parents to our little one.

Boppy to the rescue!

(Look at this cutie patootie...)
I have decided to bottle nurse our little one. Despite the fact that I've been informed (by almost EVERYONE) that breast feeding will be better for our future Einstein....still, I think bottle feeding will be best for my unique medical situation. (lack of balance, weak left side, etc.)

I've read up on Boppy(r) and have decided it will be a valuable asset to our baby arsenal.

My wishlist

Okay, I've found something I want.

What do ya think?

I think I have Round Liagment Pain

Yesterday afternoon, I sneezed and began experiencing pain in my lower abdomen. I called Mr. Moose, very upset. He "GOOGLED" about it and here's what he found out:
Round ligament pain is most common during the second trimester. Women may have a sharp pain in their abdomen or hip area that is either on one side or both. Some women even report pain that extends into the groin area. Round ligament pain is considered a normal part of pregnancy as your body goes through many different changes.

What causes round ligament pain?
The round ligament supports the uterus and stretches during pregnancy. It connects the front portion of the uterus to the groin. These ligaments contract and relax like muscles, but much more slowly. Any movement (including going from a sitting position to standing position quickly, laughing, or coughing) that stretches these ligaments, by making the ligaments contract quickly, can cause a woman to experience pain. Round ligament pain should only last for a few seconds.

What can be done to alleviate round ligament pain?
Rest is one of the best ways to help with this kind of pain. Changing positions slowly allows the ligaments to stretch more gradually and can help alleviate any pain. If you know that you are going to sneeze, cough, or laugh you can bend and flex your hips, which can reduce the pull on the ligaments. If you are having consistent round ligament pain your health care provider may recommend daily stretching exercises. The most common exercise is done by placing your hands and knees on the floor, lowering your head to the floor, and keeping your bottom in the air.

When should I call my health care provider?
If the pain persists after resting, or it is accompanied by severe pain, you would want to notify your health care provider. If the pain lasts for more than a few minutes you should contact your health care provider immediately. You would also want to notify your health care provider if the pain is accompanied by any bleeding, cramping, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, or change in vaginal discharge.
I feel so reasurred knowing that this is a "normal" part of pregnancy. Thank you, Mr. Moose, for finding out about my discomfort and reasurring me!

My Newest Obession

I have become addicted to TLC's A Baby Story.
I wonder why?

Should I Give My Baby a Pacifier?

As a new parent, comforting your baby is one of your highest priorities, and you may find a pacifier very helpful. While some babies find activities like rocking and cuddling to be perfectly soothing and are content to suck during feedings, others just can't seem to get enough of sucking, even when they're not hungry. If your baby wants to suck even after she's had her fill of formula or breast milk, a pacifier may be just the thing.A pacifier isn't a substitute for nurturing or feeding, of course, but if you've fed, burped, cuddled, rocked, and played with your baby and she's still fussy, you might want to see if a pacifier will satisfy her. There's another benefit to using a pacifier, too. Some studies have shown that babies who use pacifiers at bedtime and naptime have a reduced risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). These studies don't show that the pacifier itself prevents SIDS, just that there's a strong association between pacifier use and a reduced incidence of SIDS.

Mr. & Mrs. E. Nonne Moose are expecting!

We found out we were pregnant Friday, May, 2nd. I have had 2 prenatal appointments and one sonogram since then. (I will post the pics later.) Everyone we've told is excited and happy for us. Our own personal miracle in the making, so to say.

I have had horrible morning sickness and migraine headaches. I have also been so fatigued. I feel like a big baby, myself! I only eat, sleep, pee, poop and complain about being uncomfortable. "Mr. Moose" has been a saint. He's been washing dishes, clothes and cooking. He has been so supportive and a God-Send. I am so blessed to be married to such a wonderful man.

I am currently 13 weeks along and am still in "no way!" land. Being pregnant is so surreal. I can hardly believe we're going to be a Mommy and Daddy! (<----Not US!)

I decided to start this blog for us, our loved ones and anyone else who may stop in.

I will post my sonogram pics later, along with some more info on "our" state of being.

Ciao for now!
